Finalists for the European Tractor of the Year 2022 election (TOTY) have been published. In total 14 tractors in 3 categories are competing against each other to attain the prestigious award. The Tractor of the Year election is sponsored by BKT Tires.
TOTY started in 1998 on a limited scale with jury members from 4 countries. Ever since, the election took off to its current magnitude and status. Nowadays, jury members from 25 European countries participate in the election. All these members represent business publications on tractors and farm machinery. These can be either trade journals and magazines, websites, social media or TV stations. All jury members are specialized technical editors of these publications.
Tractor manufactures may opt to participate in three categories: best of utility, best of specialized and overall tractor of the year. In each category, a winner will be selected.
From the entries, the jury selects the finalists. Technical features and specifications determine in which category these tractors will participate.
Once the competition starts, based on a set of technical parameters, the finalist tractors are listed and judged by the jury members. Moreover, all jury members will attempt to make test drives with the finalists. At the end, all the observations and judgement figures are put together. The tractors with the highest overall scores will be the winners. These three tractors receive the prestigious awards in the three categories.
An additional category will be the winner of “Sustainable TOTY 2022”, which will be chosen among the shortlisted tractors of the three main categories.
Usually the award ceremony takes place on one of the major European trade shows, such as Agritechnica, SIMA or EIMA.
