Right in the middle of the busiest season for the agricultural machinery sector – as the opening of EIMA 2026 approaches day by day -, Steyr has pulled a rabbit out of the hat. To the great surprise of operators and the press, Steyr announced its return to the crowded specialized tractor arena, a segment in which it had been missing for nearly thirty years.
It was back in 1997 when the last Steyr 80, a highly appreciated specialized tractor produced starting in 1979, rolled out of the Sankt Valentin plant. From that point on, the Austrian manufacturer shifted its focus to different power segments and models. Until now.
During a press event in Trentino-Alto Adige Region in Italy, Steyr officially announced its grand return to this sector with the launch of the Spezial F CVT. This tractor range (100–120 hp) was developed for vineyards, orchards, hops, and other high-value perennial crops. Designed for specialized applications where compact size, efficiency, and precision are essential, the new models combine Steyr’s proven CVT transmission technology with advanced precision farming capabilities and premium operator comfort.

Steyr: a tradition in specialized tractors that hasn’t ended
With the new Spezial F CVT, the manufacturer picks up where it left off in the late 1990s with the Steyr 80, launching a tractor that pairs the brand’s proven expertise with the innovative technologies characterising its current product lineup. Available in three models with maximum power outputs between 100 and 120 hp, the Steyr Spezial F CVT is offered in dedicated configurations.
A reversible fan on the 3.6-liter FPT engine ensures efficient cooling under dusty conditions, while a 104-liter fuel tank helps maximize uptime between refuels. Maneuverability in orchards is further enhanced by adaptive steering settings, allowing operators to customize steering response for easier operation in tight spaces.

The choice falls on continuously variable transmission
The heart of the new range is the iconic STEYR S-Control CVT transmission, which guarantees smooth, continuous operation and optimal efficiency. A industry-leading top speed of 50 km/h can be reached at just 1,780 rpm, while 40 km/h requires merely 1,500 rpm during transport operations.
Hydraulic performance is equally impressive. A closed-center load-sensing hydraulic system delivers a flow rate of 115 l/min to support multiple rear and mid-mounted remote valves, enabling multiple operations to be carried out simultaneously in a single pass. The rear hitch provides high lifting capacity for a wide range of mounted implements.

Unlike many tractors in this segment, the Spezial F CVT can be equipped with a comprehensive, fully integrated precision farming package. Available technologies include S-Guide auto-guidance, the Infomat 1200 touchscreen terminal, EasyTronic II headland management, STurn automatic headland turning, the A1000 receiver, and seamless connectivity with the FieldOps digital farm management platform.
Features of the new specialized tractor also include adjustable cab suspension, a suspended front axle, a premium seat, and best-in-class low cab noise levels of just 69 decibels. A Category 4 filtration system helps protect operators during spraying applications, while a pneumatic trailer brake valve enhances safety when operating towed equipment.
A complete 12-LED work light package ensures safe and productive operation in the early morning and late evening, while an optional camera system (left-side, right-side, and rear cameras) improves visibility where needed.
“Specialized farmers face unique challenges every day, from working in confined spaces and difficult terrain to managing increasingly precise production requirements. With the Spezial F CVT, we bring the advanced technology, comfort, and efficiency that operators expect from a modern STEYR tractor into a solution dedicated to these unique agricultural applications”, commented Alessio Quatraro, Product Marketing Manager at STEYR.
