With the new BiG Pack Plus and the redesigned BiG Pack Pro, Krone has completed its Generation 6 range of large square balers across all performance classes. Key features are the one platform design and use of standardized components.
With the sixth generation, the BiG Pack Plus model is designed for cost-effective baling with practical features, while the BiG Pack Pro is designed for maximum performance, comfort and adaptability in professional, continuous use. Following the launch of the top-of-the-range Generation 6 model last year, the new Plus variant and the completely redesigned Pro variant now mean that all performance classes are available, the BiG Pack Generation 6 range is now complete.
Two distinct performance profiles
With its sixth BiG Pack generation, Krone is focusing on standardized component groups, interfaces and control concepts. The Plus and Pro models share numerous components, including pick-up technology, knotter systems, user interfaces and a wide range of service, accessory and retrofit solutions. Additional features such as moisture measurement, working lights and silage additives units are also standardized across all series. This simplifies selection, servicing and the supply of spare parts, while the technical distinction between the Plus and Pro models is maintained. “With the Plus and Pro models, we are, for the first time, giving our customers the opportunity to choose a large square baler which precisely matches their scope of use and budget, rather than having to settle for a machine which requires compromises. This creates real added value both in the retail sector and in the field,” says André Wilmer, Krone Product Manager for large square balers.
Practical BiG Pack Plus
The BiG Pack Plus, comprising the BP 1270 (XC/VC), BP 1290 (XC) and BP HDP 1290 (XC) models, is the cost-effective solution in the range. It is aimed at farms and contractors who wish ease of use and attractive investment costs.
From a technical perspective, the Plus series benefits from numerous innovations introduced in Generation 6: These include the new Liebherr main gearbox, rear-opening and easy-to-maintain EasyFlow Pick-up fitted to all models, and a neatly routed hydraulic and electronic infrastructure with additional covers to reduce soiling. For a clean cut and flexible forage conditioning, the XCut cutting unit with 26 blades and a blade group control system is available, as is, on the BiG Pack 1270 Plus the VariCut cutting unit with 51 blades. This allows the machine to be adapted specifically to different operating profiles. The purely mechanical Variable Filling System (VFS) ensures consistent bale quality. Individual areas have been specifically optimized to extend their service life.
The PowerClean Plus cleaning system keeps the knotting area and the upper baling flap effectively clean, reduces soiling and therefore supports high productivity while minimizing downtime. Common parts across series, including software, accessories and retrofit kits, facilitate training, maintenance and parts supply.
Features to make work easier
For a more comfortable driving experience, the BiG Pack Plus features the BPW tandem axle from the Pro series. A range of tyre sizes allows for optimal adaptation to ground conditions and the intended use. The redesigned drawbar is slim, easy to adjust and fitted with a sturdy hose cabinet.
Many practical options are now also available for the Plus series. In addition to the bale chute with integrated weighing device, these now include BaleCollect ready, moisture measurement with star wheels, a dosing system for silage additives and preservatives, and Krone SmartConnect for digital machine connectivity. LED lighting in the twine boxes, the knotting and needle areas, as well as control elements with visual feedback directly on the machine, round off the practical design concept.
Automation for professional use
The BiG Pack, comprising the BP 1270 (VC), BP 1290 (VC) and BP HDP 1290 (VC) models, is the solution for the most demanding requirements in terms of throughput, comfort and adaptability. It is specifically designed for high bale counts, demanding crops and challenging operating conditions.
A key feature is the new generation of electronics, featuring a more powerful job computer, a modern user interface and expanded configuration options. Many functions, from packer settings, the residual bale ejector and the cutting unit to the twine boxes, can be controlled directly from the cab.
Flexibility in operation
For the Pro models, the VariCut cutting unit is available with 26 or 51 blades. It allows for short cutting lengths and a high degree of flexibility. Alternatively, the machine can be fitted with the PreChop front-mounted pre-chopper which further breaks down the straw and improves its absorbency when used as bedding.
The Liebherr main gearbox and a reinforced clutch assembly ensure a robust drive train. In the HDP models, a redesigned bale channel, stronger side bale channel flap cylinders, a reinforced yoke and side plunger blades ensure consistently high bale weights.
The BiG Pack Pro also features electronically adjustable VFS, hydraulically folding twine boxes, standard LED lighting, a silage additives unit, a bale tagger, PowerClean Pro and digital connectivity.
The Plus and Pro models follow the same operating logic: standardised interfaces, identical icons and clearly structured menus make it easy to switch between the series. Common spare and wear parts, optional extras and retrofit kits applicable across all series reduce complexity and simplify servicing, training and parts supply.
