John Deere introduces Model Year 2027 (MY27) updates of the 6M tractor series. These include a revised cab layout, a more consistent operating concept across the series, expanded Precision Agriculture functions and a new e19 full powershift transmission.

The new e19 transmission features 19 fully powershifted gears designed for both field and transport applications. Building on the proven PowrQuad technology, it integrates a dual-clutch design and proportional control valves to ensure smooth, uninterrupted gear changes and a more dynamic driving experience.

The e19 transmission features an integrated engine and transmission management system that continuously adapts gear selection and shifting behaviour based on multiple tractor inputs, supporting efficient operation and fast gear changes with no torque interruption under varying load conditions.

The system allows clutch-free operation similar to a stepless transmission. An inclination sensor adds terrain awareness to gear selection making gear changes faster and more predictive. ‘Skip Shift’ jumps multiple gears for rapid speed changes, while ‘Scroll Shift’ keeps clutches partially engaged for even faster transitions, reduced heat, and less wear. Compared to the CommandQuad Plus transmission, the e19 can deliver up to 5% productivity improvements, with up to 5% reduced fuel consumption.

Operators can choose between pedal or joystick control and change seamlessly from one to the other. In automatic mode, the system selects the appropriate gear and engine speed to balance performance, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort. Cruise control functionality helps maintain a constant ground speed under changing load conditions. At transport speeds up to 50 km/h, engine speed is reduced to 1,620 rpm. The transmission can be operated via the traditional control lever, the Compact CommandARM, or the new CommandX Plus joystick, offering flexible control options depending on operator preference.

The e19 transmission will be available on most 6-cylinder models up to the 6M 250

The cab has been revised with a clearer layout and a more flexible control configuration. Options range from a right-hand console with mechanical or electric SCVs to a compact CommandARM with G5 CommandCenter and CommandX Plus joystick. The operating logic now follows the 6R, 7R and 8R series, supporting easier transfer between machines.

CommandX Plus and Compact CommandARM

The optional CommandX Plus joystick is available on all e19 and AutoPowr transmissions. Integrated into the Compact CommandARM it offers six freely assignable buttons, two set speeds, and control of tractor and ISOBUS functions familiar from the CommandPRO joystick. Additionally, the Compact CommandARM offers two SCV configurations with traditional E-SCV switches or an electronic joystick.

G5 CommandCenter and display

The optional 10.1-inch (25.65 cm) G5 CommandCenter display is the main interface for tractor and Precision Ag functions, supported by a corner post display for key parameters such as speed and engine rpm. In configurations without G5, the corner post display remains the main control center.

The G5 platform supports a wide range of Precision Ag applications, from basic guidance to advanced features such as AutoPath. The ‘Settings Manager’ function enables storage and recall of different profiles for tractor, implement and automation settings, while the ‘Layout Manager’ enables configuration of screen layouts according to task or operator preference.

The new Remote Display Control (RDC) enables remote adjustment of G5 displays, improving operator support and reducing setup time. Satellite Map visualization supports field orientation and documentation.

The updated 6M models support iTEC headland management, automating repeatable sequences such as PTO engagement, hitch movement, hydraulic functions, travel speed and gear selection based on distance. Sequences can be saved per implement or operation and activated via dedicated buttons or reconfigurable controls, similar to the 6R tractor series.

With Work Planner, work plans created in the John Deere Operations Center are transferred wirelessly to the tractor. Guidance lines, application maps, work instructions and implement settings load automatically when entering the field, reducing setup steps and potential input errors and enabling operators to cover up to 9%* more area per hour.

Precision agriculture and connectivity

The 6M Series can be equipped with StarFire 7500 receivers, G5 displays and JDLink connectivity. SF-RTK enables positioning accuracy down to 2.5 cm. Standard G5 functionality includes Section Control and Variable Rate Control, with optional upgrades such as AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoPath and Passive Implement Guidance.

Machine and field data are synchronised wirelessly with the John Deere Operations Center via DataSync. InField Data Sharing links multiple John Deere machines working in the same field on the same task, enabling operators to see real-time progress and coordinate as one.

The 6M range combines long service intervals with a simplified service concept. The new e19 transmission features 100% mechanical gear trains, engineered to reduce heat load and wear over long duty cycles. A new high-bandwidth communication bus provides access to more than 2,000 machine data points, improving remote diagnostics and Expert Alerts based on live sensor and controller information. This allows service teams to pre-identify faults, shorten repair time and thus reducing unplanned downtime.

Model highlights: 6M 125, 6M 145 & 6M 220

The 6M lineup continues with 17 models. The 6M 125, 6M 145 and 6M 220 represent key configurations for different applications. The short-frame 6M 95 to 6M 125 models are ideal for loader work and confined spaces, offering high manoeuvrability, visibility and optional joystick control critical for dairy farming and intensive loader work. The 6M 145 combines six-cylinder performance with e19 transmission features, thus offering high pulling capability in a compact format.

The 6M 220 combines intuitive operation, full Precision Ag integration, and pulling power to integrate seamlessly into existing fleets at a value-spec cost level. Its 6.8 l PowerTech PVS engine delivers up to 249 hp with Intelligent Power Management (IPM. With a 2,800 mm wheelbase and large rear tyre options, it supports efficient power transfer for demanding tasks. A broad transmission portfolio makes this model suitable for tillage, transport, and PTO applications.
