In the city of Naples in Italy, Tractor of the Year 2027 kicked off on June 23. The award, which was created to celebrate the most advanced solutions in the field of agricultural mechanization, over the years has become the major expression of technological progress and the evolution of farm machinery.
A jury of 26 journalists from Europe’s major ag machinery trade magazines will be keeping a watchful eye on the latest innovation and technology from the 22 competing tractors, vying for the award in six categories:
- TotY HighPower, for tractors with power ratings over 300 hp, designed to improve modern farming practices.
- TotY MidPower, for tractors between 150 and 280 hp combining power, versatility, and efficiency.
- TotY Utility, instead, recognizes tractors between 70 and 150 hp with max. 4 cylinders and an operating weight of max. 9 tons, which stand out for fuel efficiency and maneuverability.
- TotY Specialized is the category for orchard, vineyard, and mountain tractors with over 40 hp.
- TOTYBot exclusively focuses on tractors equipped with a 3-point hitch, no cab, PTO, or electric power transfer to implements, available on the European market, with a minimum technical readiness level (TRL) of 8.
- TotY Sustainable, awarding sustainable tractor innovation and will see one of the brands among those eligible for the other five categories win the award.
“Let The Challenge Begin is much more than the opening event of a new edition of Tractor of the Year”, says Fabio Zammaretti, President of Tractor of the Year. “It is the moment when manufacturers and trade journalists from across Europe come together to discuss the technologies that are shaping the future of agricultural mechanization. The tractors presented in Naples reflect the direction in which the industry is moving greater efficiency, advanced digitalization, automation, and an increasing focus on sustainability. For the jury, this marks the beginning of a rigorous process of analysis and evaluation that will culminate in the selection of the winners of Tractor of the Year 2027,” he added.
For sponsor BKT Tyres the TotY election fully meets with the company’s objectives for ongoing innovation and understanding the technical needs of tractor manufacturers.
Once the evaluation phase is complete, the finalist tractors will gather once again at the EIMA 2026 tradeshow this coming November in Bologna, Italy, awaiting the announcement of the winners. This event will not only celebrate the industry’s technological and design excellence but also its ability to evolve through increasingly sustainable, efficient, and high-performance solutions.
