Originally known as Valmet, Valtra first started manufacturing tractors in Jyväskylä, Finland in 1951. However, the Nordic brand can trace its heritage back further to the 18th century. Today’s Valtra tractors represent the culmination of two traditions: Finland’s Valmet and Sweden’s Volvo BM, itself an offshoot from the Eskilstuna Mekaniska Werkstad founded in 1832. In 2004 Valtra joined AGCO Corporation, further expanding the brand’s global resources and innovation. Nowadays, Valtra is a major Nordic manufacturer of tractors and smart farming technologies, and a popular tractor brand in Latin America.
65 years of Valtra do Brasil
Valmet opened Brazil’s first tractor factory in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil in 1960, just 9 years after establishing operations in Finland, becoming the first brand in the country fully dedicated to Brazilian farmers. Since then, Valtra has pioneered many innovations in Brazil, including the country’s first four-wheel drive tractor, the first specialist narrow tractor for coffee plantations, introducing turbocharging technology, air-conditioned tractor cabs, and stepless transmissions.
The 28th of July 2025 was known as Dia do Agricultor, or ‘Farmers’ Day’. On that day, Valtra factories in Brazil and Argentina held a special event to celebrate the brand’s 65th anniversary. At the Mogi das Cruzes plant, in São Paulo, Valtra gathered employees, partners, and brand dealers for a celebration that saw the unveiling of the commemorative BM115 and BM135 models. This limited edition features special Titan Grey bodywork, black roof and wheels, and Valtra logos in gold, reinforcing an exclusive and celebratory character.
“Valtra has always had a very close connection with Brazilian farmers and through South America. Farmers’ Day was chosen for the special celebration to emphasize the connection between Valtra and the rural producers who helped build our brand’s success story” explains Fabio Dotto, Director of Product Marketing at Fendt/Valtra.
One such a customer is the Toniello family from Sertãozinho, São Paulo who have been using Valtra’s solutions on their Viralcool plant for more than 50 years. Now Viralcool operates a fleet of over 430 Valtra tractors in their sustainable production of sugar, ethanol, energy and yeast extracted from sugarcane.
Beyond this, Valtra maintains a strong presence in strategic regions of Brazilian agriculture with sugarcane, grains, livestock, forestry, coffee, and fruit production. Its structured dealership network guarantees proximity and support for farmers across the country. The brand is recognised for its robust and versatile tractors, adapted to Brazil’s diverse soils and crops, with a portfolio that serves small, medium, and large producers, especially in the sugarcane sector.
In Brazil, Valtra reinforces its commitment to the circular economy through the Valtra Reman program, which offers remanufactured parts with factory quality, reducing costs and environmental impact. The brand also invests in energy efficiency, precision farming, and research into alternative fuels, preparing the agricultural sector for a more sustainable and technology-driven future.
75 years celebration
This year, Valtra marks its 75th anniversary. Since its inception, Valtra has built on its reputation for engineering robust tractors for harsh Nordic conditions. Today, Valtra manufactures technologically advanced, easy-to-use, and comfortable tractors that serve farmers in a variety of climates across the world. In 2017 Valtra introduced the successful SmartTouch armrest. In 2023 Valtra launched the 6th generation S Series high-horsepower tractor, manufactured in Suolahti, Finland and winning three major design awards in a single year. As well as winning the Good Design Award, and iF Design Award, the S Series was awarded the Red Dot Best of the Best Award in 2025.
Vice President Sales and Marketing, Valtra EME, Matti Tiitinen, adds “We couldn’t be happier with the recognition the S6 Series has received since its launch. It embodies the farmer first focus that has driven Valtra’s innovation over the past 75 years. At the recently held Agritechnica tradeshow in Germany, Valtra not only showcased the S Series’ sustainability, but also some of the new technology the brand is developing with partners that utilizes the latest telemetry and AI to enhance farmers’ sustainability and productivity.”
