Retail sales in India recorded strong growth in January, according to trade platform Tractor Junction. Total sales reached 113,210 units, compared to 92,337 units in January 2025, marking a 22.61% year-on-year increase. This rise points to better buying at dealerships at the start of the year.
Mahindra remained the largest tractor seller in January 2026 with 25,995 units sold. Despite volume growth of 17.77%, its market share slipped to 22.96% from 23.90% a year ago. Swaraj held the second position with 21,911 units, supported by 26.38% growth, which helped its market share improve to 19.35%.
Sonalika ranked third after selling 15,376 tractors, up from 12,299 units last year. Its market share edged up to 13.58%. Massey Ferguson followed with 13,460 units, while Escorts reported 12,311 units and posted one of the highest growth rates at 34.75%, raising its market share to 10.87%.
John Deere sold 7,895 units in January, though its market share declined slightly to 6.97%. Eicher reported 7,814 units and saw its market share rise to 6.90%. New Holland recorded 5,336 units, improving its share to 4.71%.
In the smaller segment, Trakstar saw a sharp growth of 75.57% with 697 units sold. VST sold 399 units, maintaining the same market share as last year. Indo Farm sold 290 units, showing steady growth. Captain’s sales fell to 341 units, while Kubota saw a major drop to 184 units from 1,628 units last year. Preet and ACE also reported lower volumes, while SDF posted growth from a low base.
As per sources, the overall rise in tractor retail sales in January 2026 shows steady demand, even as market share movement across brands reflects changing buyer choice.
Retail tractor sales in January 2026 were largely driven by strong demand for tractors below 50 HP. This segment recorded total sales of 1,11,221 units, while the above 50 HP category stood at 1,989 units. The figures clearly show that most farmers continue to prefer lower HP tractors for regular farm work and daily use.
