Claas has introduced the new Arion 5 CMATIC series, bringing CVT transmission technology to its four-cylinder tractor range. The three new models deliver maximum outputs of 145 to 180 hp.

Positioned as successors to the Arion 500 series, the compact and manoeuvrable tractors combine a 4.5-litre four-cylinder engine with Claas’ power-split CMATIC continuously variable transmission. The range is headed by the Arion 5.180, which provides a permanently available maximum outputof 180 hp and up to 730 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm. With a power-to-weight ratio of 42.8 kg/hp, Claas says the tractor offers high performance across applications ranging from front-loader work and forage harvesting to tillage and sowing.

The CMATIC transmission, developed and manufactured by Claas Industrietechnik, is designed to provide smooth power delivery, efficient operation and reduced driver workload. Its adaptive drivetrain management includes the “AUTO LOAD ANTICIPATION” function, which detects impending load increases and proactively adjusts engine speed and transmission settings. According to Claas, this helps maintain stable engine performance while optimizing fuel consumption.

The Arion 5 CMATIC also features a long wheelbase and balanced weight distribution to improve traction and stability, while a top road speed of 50 km/h is available at reduced engine speed. The transmission additionally offers an automatic trailer overrun brake and a dedicated wheel-loader mode for front-loader applications.

Driver comfort is another key focus. The tractors feature a fully suspended, quiet cab and PROACTIV front axle suspension. A premium driver’s seat with massage function, semi-active suspension and climate control is available, along with a new multimedia system supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB+.

The CEBIS terminal, now fitted as standard, provides control of hydraulic functions, rear linkage, ISOBUS implements and other tractor settings. Claas also offers CEMOS DIALOG, an optional driver-assistance system that uses self-learning algorithms to help optimize field performance, ballasting and tyre pressure.

Digital connectivity is provided through Claas connect and the CEMIS 1200 terminal. Operators can create and manage jobs, plan guidance lines, monitor machine performance and share field information between machines. A new automatic reference-track change function can also select the appropriate guidance line based on the tractor’s position and direction of travel, reducing manual input during headland and wedge operations.

Other features include optional dynamic steering, which approximately halves steering-wheel turns, and a lighting package offering up to 20 LED lights for improved night-time visibility.

The new Arion 5 CMATIC therefore combines four-cylinder compactness with CVT technology, enhanced operator comfort and connected digital farming capabilities, positioning it as a versatile alternative to larger six-cylinder tractors.

The new series will be presented to the public for the first time at Innov-Agri on 9 and 10 September in Ondes, France.
