Talking with a Valtra tractor

The Valtra Q Series will showcase Valtra Coach’s Talking Tractor concept during the upcoming Agritechnica tradeshow in Hanover, Germany. Valtra Coach is a smart, AI based voice- and text-enabled assistant, designed to make farming easier, more intuitive, and more data-driven.

Running on a mobile device, the Talking Tractor concept understands and responds in English, German, French, and Finnish, and is trained on Valtra’s full range of operator’s manuals, smart farming guides, telemetry data, and work session logs. It supports both voice and text prompts and delivers answers through a visual interface optimized for tablets and mobile devices.

“This isn’t just about talking – it’s about understanding farmers and how Valtra can make it easy to use all the features of their Valtra tractor and gain productivity and efficiency,” says Mika Sormunen, Data and analytics Manager Valtra EME. “The Talking Tractor can interpret complex telemetry and work logs, and turn them into clear, actionable insights for the operator.”

Key features of the Talking Tractor

Multilingual voice/text interaction (English, German, French, Finnish)

Visual answers with illustrations from manuals and guides

Step-by-step checklists for complex tasks

Infographic-style visualizations of telemetry and work logs

Simple user interface optimized for tablets and compatible with all devices

In its current form, the AI assistant has been trained using manually updated work logs allowing it to correlate human-readable task entries with machine telemetry. This enables the generation of on-demand data visualizations and calculations such as CO₂ emissions, idle time percentages, and other performance metrics – all tailored to the specific task or implement used.

“Valtra explores ways to make Valtra Coach an advanced farmer’s digital toolbox,” adds Matti Tiitinen, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Valtra EME. “The talking tractor is designed from the ground up to transform how farmers interact with our products and how they access information about our high technology solutions in an easy way, whether they’re asking ‘How do I…?’ or looking to optimize their operations. Now, for the first time, farmers can ask the tractor their questions directly through the mobile interface and receive on demand answers.

Valtra Coach is designed to work on any mobile device and integrates seamlessly with the brand’s telemetry solution, Valtra Connect. The Talking Tractor concept feature is compatible with any Valtra model using Valtra Connect, whether new or retrofitted. It can operate while driving, using the tractor’s Bluetooth audio or headphones, and settings can be adjusted to keep the AI assistant actively listening.

Developed in collaboration with AGCO DT, and Valtra’s partners, Gofore, and Spogen AI, the Talking Tractor is a proof of concept. Valtra is using Agritechnica to gather feedback and insights to guide future development.

Through offering visitors at Agritechnica early access to this demonstration feature, enables us to listen to their feedback and co-develop the concept further. Based on earlier studies, farmers continue to rank ease of use as one of the biggest drivers for new technology adoption and in this field Valtra aims to take a
