With DynamicSteering, Horsch presents steering software for trailed tandem machines that can automatically switch between directionally stable and low-wear steering. The new software ensures higher efficiency, manoeuvrability and better crop care.
There are two types of tandem steering. With a directionally stable steering, the first axle of the tandem chassis follows the track of the tractor’s rear axle, while the rear tyres of the sprayer run in the track of the front axle. This type of steering minimises damage to plants in the headland area.
The second version is steering with the wheels in a V position where the axles are turned in opposite directions. This enables particularly tight turning circle and is advantageous when cornering at almost 90 degrees or on hard ground.
With DynamicSteering the driver can choose from various automatic steering modes: maximum directional stability, maximum material protection or a combination of both modes. The steering software decides which mode to use based on the steering angle specified by the tractor. With a sufficiently wide turning circle, the machine remains on track and drives in a particularly plant protecting way.
In tight corners, on the other hand, the front axle is actively swiveled in the opposite direction which allows the machine to turn in early, not only reducing the turning circle but also specifically reducing the load on axle respectively rim, thus minimizing wear on the tyres.
Due to precise tracking at the right moment, DynamicSteering contributes to protecting crops and the machine as well as to taking some workload off the driver. Of course, the steering strategy is arbitrary, and a manual mode is also available. Moreover, the steering modes can be selected independently from each other.
DynamicSteering is particularly advantageous in fields with tight headlands, hairpin bends or narrow tramlines wherever manoeuvrability and precision are equally important.
The new steering system will be available as standard on all new tandem machines and can also be retrofitted to existing models.
