Over 60 years Kuhn drum mowers

In 1963, Dutchman Piet Zweegers jr. invented the cyclo mower, or drum mower. It would change the haymaking world from that moment. Today, the PZ drum mower, named after its inventor, is still being produced and developed at Kuhn-Geldrop in the Netherlands. In a further evolved version of course.

For decades, mowing with a cutter bar was the standard. Cyclo mowers, however, consist of drums along which knives rotate. The big advantage is that they deliver a good swath and are low-maintenance, even in tough conditions.

This turned out to be a successful concept. For more than 60 years, PZ drum mowers have proven themselves in all kinds of conditions and for different types of agricultural operations.

The greatest strengths include:

  • An active crop flow and a cleanly deposited swath thanks to the PZ design, consisting of 2 large outer and 2 small inner drums.
  • Low power requirement due to large throughput openings between the drums.
  • Clean cutting quality thanks to flat sided drums and freely rotating saucers.
  • User-friendly and quick knife exchange.

With 8 different models Kuhn has tailored its drum mowers on both small and large tractors, and demanding conditions.

  • 3 front-mounted models in working widths of 2.69 – 3.19 m
  • 4 rear-mounted models in working widths of 1.65 – 3.04 m
  • a triple mower combination with a maximum working width of 8.84 m
